Des Moines Metro Opera
Take your seat for the incredible drama and artistry that landed the Des Moines Metro Opera on the pages of the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times!

Immerse yourself in culture, music and drama! The Des Moines Metro Opera summer opera festival takes over the stage in the Pote Theater at the Blank Center for the Performing Arts every May through July. Three operas are performed in repertory for 15 mainstage performances. Some of the nation’s most elite performers gather to deliver bold, brilliant performances, sure to leave you mesmerized.
We’re saving your seat. And what a seat it is! 100% of the seats in Pote Theater are closer to the center of the stage than the front row at the Metropolitan Opera or the Lyric Opera of Chicago! You’re truly up close and personal with the performance.
Whether it’s a classic reimagined for the 21st century or a contemporary work, the storytelling is magical — all of DMMO’s productions are sung in the original language, with English titles projected above the stage to help you connect with the powerful drama.
DMMO utilizes a remarkable collection of professional talent assembled from over 1,000 national applicants. They frequently sing with many of the major opera companies around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Vienna State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berline and the English National Opera.

DMMO has earned a reputation for masterful performance and has an annual loyal following of audience members from more than 40 states and every zip code in the Des Moines metro.
Those loyal audience members aren’t the only ones taking notice — DMMO has been featured in the pages of the Wall Street Journal, the Kansas City Star, The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune. If seeing an opera isn’t on your bucket list, it should be.
